A NEW CHEF COMPETITION SERIES
The Food Network is accepting applications for a new cooking competition series. They are looking for professional chefs who want to test their culinary skills against those of their peers. Four competitors will race against the clock; their food judged on taste, creativity, and presentation by the experts. Three are eliminated along the way, and only one remains the ultimate winner.
The competition is limited to experienced chefs in the New York Tri-State area. All styles of cooking are encouraged to apply. No deadline has been set, so this could close at anytime. To apply, click here.

DEAR FOOD NETWORK
The Food Network's new series, DEAR FOOD NETWORK allows viewers to submit videos about their cooking problems and have the issues dealt with by one of the network's top chefs. To be considered, submit a 2-minute video telling them:
-why you want a chance to have your questions answered and problems solved by a Food Network chef.
-your story: Don't know why your turkey always comes out dry? Want a simple and delicious champagne cocktail for a sparkling New Year's Eve? Are you having an army of family members over for a holiday dinner and need some ideas?
-about yourself (where you live, what you do for a living, a humorous testimonial by a friend or family member, etc).

Update: Until Dec. 8/08 DEAR FOOD NETWORK is especially interested in "question about global grilling (Mexican, tandoori, Italian, Korean), improving an All-American dishes (hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken), seafood, or how to make a tasty dessert on the grill."

NEXT FOOD NETWORK STAR 5
Season 4 of The NEXT FOOD NETWORK STAR (finale was July 26/08) was the highest rated so far. The winner of this competition series becomes host of their own Food Network show, and the premier drew the largest debut audience in Food Network history.

The original October 31/08 deadline to apply to be be on The NEXT FOOD NETWORK STAR 5 was twice extended and finally closed Dec. 1/08. You had to submit a 2-3 minute video of yourself in action. VPTV will update this post when casting for season 6 opens in late summer/09.

CHOPPING BLOCK
NBC's new restaurant competition CHOPPING BLOCK premiered March 11/09. This series is produced by Granada America, producer of Hell’s Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares, and hosted by the "original rock-star chef Marco Pierre White." Open calls for CHOPPING BLOCK were held in 6 cities nationwide March 8-22/08. The deadline for online applications was March 25th. They asked for “two-person teams, with pre-existing relationships, who have always dreamed of opening their own restaurant!” The winning team gets to open their own restaurant.
